Cruise Ships are avoiding all docks in the Netherlands

Ports in the Netherlands have seen a decline in cruise ship dockings since 2014 when an American Royal Caribbean ship received a 1 Million Euro fine for having Filipino maintenance employees on board who did not have work permits. This fine has caused several disagreements regarding whether this is necessary for work on seagoing vessels. While this fine became a law last year, many officials say that this prolonged uncertainty has caused frustration and a decline in business. A cruise ship headed to the Netherlands this month for repairs was re-routed last minute due to lack of permits for employees on board. The business community expects a loss of 1 Billion Euros in 2019 due to ships avoiding Dutch docks for maintenance.
