Brexit & the Transfer of Operations

There are many companies who chose to operate in the UK based, partly at least, due to its membership of the EU. As a result, many organisations may decide to relocate their activities in the wake of Brexit. The Netherlands is an attractive prospect for companies in this position, and Executive Mobility Group are uniquely positioned to facilitate a company’s relocation and integration. From the perspective of personnel, this means that we can provide a full range of logistical services, administrative services, and indeed immigration services to ensure an efficient transition into life in the Netherlands. Due to our international network of partners, we can deliver these services effectively regardless of your employee’s nation of birth.

Of course, there is more than just employees to consider when relocating an entire operation. We have partnered with Vydenz who are industry leaders in providing comprehensive consultancy relating to the establishment of a new corporate entity within Dutch borders.

Brexit & Expats

While there is no doubt that many companies will be adversely affected by Brexit. Individual UK citizens living and working in Holland will also find themselves with many new hurdles to overcome. For many of these people, their residency status will be thrown into question, requiring pro-active steps in order to ensure continued eligibility. Structures are being put in place to facilitate the granting of a more permanent residency status for those in this situation. These so-called ‘grandfathering rules’ will allow UK expats time to take the appropriate administrative steps to ensure uninterrupted compliance in their immigration status.

“They do not benefit from the same ‘grandfathering rules’ as expats, meaning there is a lot of uncertainty”

Brexit & Commuters

Similarly, those who spend part of their time working in the Netherlands for a UK company may find that there are changes in the functionality of their taxation. These commuters are currently entitled to certain TAX deductions as they are not entirely resident in the Netherlands. However, these deductions may be a thing of the past post Brexit, and perhaps more alarmingly for these individuals, they do not benefit from the same ‘grandfathering rules’ as expats, meaning there is a lot of uncertainty around what visa requirements they may need to continue commuting to work in the Netherlands.

EMG experts are on hand to guide these individuals through any and all Immigration or tax hurdles that may arise as a result of Brexit.

With corporate and client mobility at the heart of what we do, EMG stays abreast of the latest in Brexit developments to ensure that we are best prepared to deal with any and all outcomes for our clients.
