An interview: Nathalie Crivello, Mobility Manager
Hi Nathalie, welcome. Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Natalie Crivello. My origin lies in France. I moved to the Netherlands when I was a small child and had been living there my entire life, always working in companies with an international character. Tapping into my curiosity to learn about different cultures. So working in this field is very close to my identity. I’ve been working at EMG for almost three years, and I enjoy it very much.
You have a great experience in Global mobility! What gets you out of bed in the mornings?
The fact that a lot of people are counting on you. Many people are able to come to the Netherlands with visas and residence permits that I prepared for them. It’s a lovely feeling to have responsibility for that and you organizing everything for them. It is something that I’m very keen on doing.
What is your biggest achievement?
Before being employed by EMG, I worked for a different company. Then things happened in my personal life, and I lost both of my parents. I had a few years that were difficult for me. I stopped working and had some problems getting back to myself. Through working on myself, everything became more clear. There was light at the end of the tunnel, and I was able to start working again and get back to a healthy life and responsibilities. That is what I see on a personal level as one of my most significant achievements. Going through this low point in life and getting back to where I am now. I’m very thankful for that.
Can you describe what a typical day looks like for you?
My typical day is a lot of everything: emails, phone calls, preparing all kinds of applications, scheduling appointments. Sometimes I have appointments with clients. It’s very versatile, and this is one of the most attractive parts of this work. The work also brings a lot of things to take care of that are not plannable. This is something you have to bear in mind every day. You need to make sure that you don’t get confused with all the details and information you get.
If I ask you to come up with three words that describe your role, what would they be?
Common sense, keeping people cool and detail-oriented.
What do you mean by the second one?
People can sometimes be very stressed because they have to take care of so many things and keeping a clear perspective on things is a crucial part of the job.
If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?
I would like to be an interior designer. I love designing and creating a good mood with colour schemes and furniture.
Did you design your own home?
Yes! And sometimes friends ask me to give advice as well:) There is a big show coming up in the Netherlands for interior design, and I’ve already booked some tickets to go there.
And if you have a wish-list, what is on it for the next five years?
I’ve learned from my past, that sometimes things can go on for years and years and then in a matter of hours everything can change completely. I would say that I will still be in this line of work or maybe doing something for myself.
Sometimes it’s a good plan not to have a plan.
Yeah, I am always open to new things and if something crosses your path – why not?
What can you tell me about your professional challenges? What are the biggest ones?
To know what the Global Mobility market wants is a huge challenge. Things can change so rapidly in this market, and you have to stay on top of it. Also to be as professional as you can, learning by going to meetings, attending all kinds of webinars or courses. These are the most prominent professional challenges for me.
What do you like most about your job?
The diversity and international contact. You are connecting with people from all over the world, and this is very energizing.
What advice would you give to expats?
Have realistic expectations of where you’re moving, get details about the culture of the country. Also, try to adapt to your new environment and get acquainted with the locals.
To conclude, what is your motto or personal mantra?
Stay focused. If you do something – try to do your best. Whatever it is, even if you serve coffee or clean houses. If you are not in it with your heart, then why do it?
