The Netherlands lifts restrictions on Croatian workers

As of 1 July 2018, the Netherlands has lifted the restrictions for Croatian workers in the country, closely following the UK’s decision to do the same. In 2013, Croatia was established as a full member of the EU and was given a restriction for employment in the Netherlands, along with a few other member states. This restriction required Croatian workers to obtain a work permit or visa before beginning employment and was set to last for 5 years with the option to extend if it was seen to negatively affect the labor market. After review of the current labor market, it was decided that there was a need for workers and that the lifting of these restrictions would be a benefit for the economy. In response to the lifted restrictions, Croatia has also lifted labor restrictions for Dutch and British nationals working in Croatia. Austria and Slovenia continue to impose restrictions for now.
