EuRA Conference – An Interview with Matheus Cavalcante, Global Mobility Manager at EMG

Posted in EuRA Conference, Interview

What made the experience of participating at the EuRA conference on global mobility worthwhile?

The EuRA conference provided a great opportunity for us at EMG to connect with global mobility experts from all over the world. With 750 attendees, we had the chance to meet professionals from countries as diverse as Japan, Nigeria, South Africa, Australia, and Chile. This enabled us to build bridges and explore potential business opportunities. The Netherlands, as a country that welcomes many knowledge migrants and has a high demand for professionals, played a significant role in the discussions.

What were the most talked-about topics at the conference?

Sustainability, talent management, AI and technology, future trends, and the rise of younger professionals in the global mobility industry are among the most-discussed topics in the world of global mobility.

There were also discussions about the challenges faced by the relocation industry due to geopolitical situations and the need to educate companies on the true value of global mobility firms. It was stressed that our role goes beyond just handling bureaucracy; we also help employees integrate into new cultures, easing the burdens that come with adapting to a new society.

You mentioned the topic of AI. Where do you see it being used in global mobility, and what are the limitations?

AI has great potential for automating and improving internal tasks. We foresee future systems that can connect all the different pieces of software used in the industry with AI, simplifying the journey of global mobility professionals. Tools that can help with visa applications and speed up the process are also being developed. However, while AI can be helpful in these areas, we believe that communication with clients and partners should still happen through human interaction in order to build a genuine connection. The human touch, compassion, and understanding of individual needs are essential in our industry.

What other topics were discussed during the conference?

There was a panel about talent management, which focused on how companies can value their employees by fostering a sense of community. By genuinely helping employees to be happy and well-adjusted in their new country, companies can demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility. This approach not only contributes to employees’ well-being but also has the added benefit of increasing employee retention. By creating strong connections with employees and supporting them during their transitions, companies can build a loyal and committed workforce.

What are important trends in the industry?

Adapting to post-COVID work environments is a key trend for employers. With many people now working from home, companies are striving to make their offices attractive for employees to come and remain. It’s about finding the right balance between working from home and office-based work. Some companies are offering unique perks, like ping pong tables and even allowing employees to bring their pets to work.

And how about the rise of younger professionals in global mobility?

The entry of Gen Z workers into the industry has brought a focus on better communication, technology, and finding the balance between professional and personal life. This is valuable as it creates a more dynamic and adaptable workforce, able to navigate the complexities of the changing global mobility landscape.

In conclusion, how can companies successfully manage the challenges of the changing work landscape, particularly in the post-COVID era, while also prioritizing talent management and social responsibility for their international employees?

Companies that want to hire globally need to be proactive and adaptable to stay at the forefront of these changes. Adapting to the post-COVID work environment is challenging and it involves refining remote work policies and promoting a healthy work-life balance for employees. Focusing on talent management and social responsibility is essential for creating a positive work environment.

The most effective way for companies to tackle these challenges for their international employees is to partner with a global mobility firm that is well-versed in the intricacies of international relocation and constantly updated on industry trends. This collaboration not only helps companies stay up-to-date with the ever-changing landscape of global mobility, but also ensures a more successful and diverse workforce.
